Both educational experiences will be offered on the beautiful campus of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA, during the week of August 1-6. Rising grades 3-6 will meet for singing camp from 9 am to 1 pm, and rising grades 6-12 will meet for the vocal workshop from 11 am until 4 pm daily.
The Vocal Arts Camp for younger singers will feature lots of singing, music appreciation, sight-reading, young-singer-focused movement classes, and musicianship in an interactive environment. Kellie McHugh of Aurora Studios, LLC has custom-designed a unique educational experience for this age group.
The Vocal Arts Workshop for older students will feature singing instruction in multiple vocal styles & genres, sight-reading, basic vocal anatomy & voice care, performance masterclasses, songwriting, stage-anxiety tips, musicianship, and singer-focused movement classes: guest speakers and clinicians will provide unique expertise and experience. Each student will have the opportunity for 2 solo performances in contrasting vocal styles in the closing Saturday performance. Cara Transtrom of LaVoce Studios, LLC has created the curriculum for this one-of-a-kind experience.
Unlike most other summer camp offerings, Vocal Arts Camp & Vocal Arts Workshop will overlap the last two hours of the younger singers’ camp with the first two hours of the older students’ workshop. Among many other educational benefits, this provides mentorship opportunities for older students with the younger kids, along with performance & small-group opportunities for mixed-age groups. This overlap allows for individualized, developmentally-appropriate teaching and practice of vocal concepts that both groups are learning separately in classes while also encouraging mixed-age learning, socialization, and vocal leadership.
Both week-long opportunities will conclude with a joint mid-morning performance on Saturday, August 6, 2016, on Episcopal’s campus.
